The Benefits of Medical Marijuana

Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, cancer, HIV, arthritis pain, crohn’s disease, anxiety, Hepatitis C, and chemotherapy. What do all these have in common? They can all be treated with medical marijuana.

Symptoms specifically treated by cannabis include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, muscle tension/spasm, chronic pain, insomnia, and nerve pain. Patients use medical marijuana for the Cannabidiol (CBD) medical applications found in tonics, liquids, and edibles.

1. Naturally occurring cannabinoids in the medical marijuana can help regulate the system that causes fear and anxiety in the body and brain.

2. According to a 2006 study in the European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology found that 86% of patients using medical marijuana successfully completed their Hep C therapy, while only 29% of non-smokers completed their treatment, possibly because medical marijuana helps lessens the treatments side effects.

3. Medical marijuana has demonstrated the ability to reduce the amount of opioid pain medications needed by patients with intractable pain.

4. Medical marijuana slows the formation of amyloid plaques by blocking the enzyme in the brain that makes them. These plaques are what kill brain cells and cause Alzheimer’s.

5. Medical marijuana reduces tremors, improves sleep, and decreases pain in patients with Parkinson’s disease.

6. Medical marijuana is used to treat and prevent the eye disease glaucoma, which increases pressure in the eyeball, damaging the optic nerve and causing loss of vision.

7. Medical marijuana contains both CBD and THC. THC has been linked to controlling seizures by binding to the brain cells responsible for controlling excitability and regulating relaxation.

8. Medical marijuana helps stimulate appetite, decrease nausea, and reduce pain for cancer patients. Additionally, cannabidiol (CBD) may help prevent cancer from spreading according to researchers.

9. Cannabinoids bind to the endocannabinoid receptors in the central nervous systems and peripheral muscles to relieve pain and muscle spasms, and spasticity for patients with MS.

10. Insomnia? Medical marijuana is a great treatment to make sure you’re getting your 7-8 hours of rest.

You see, we’re not getting high. We’re getting medicated.
